A warm welcome to the Chavuma Town Council website — a platform designed to foster interaction with our valued community and ensure that information on the services, programmes, and opportunities available within our district is easily accessible to the public.
The name Chavuma is derived from the thunderous sound of the magnificent waterfalls along the Zambezi River — a sound locally referred to in Luvale as “Kuvuma.” The area came under the jurisdiction of Central Government in 1950 and is situated in the North-Western Province of Zambia, making it the country’s furthest district. Chavuma shares boundaries with Zambezi District to the east, Angola to the west, and stretches northwards along the Zambezi River.
Chavuma was officially declared a district in 1997, under the late President Dr. Frederick Titus Jacob Chiluba, during the tenure of Honourable Muloji as Member of Parliament. The district was separated from Zambezi District and consists of two distinct parts:
The East Bank, comprising 8 wards
The West Bank, comprising 7 wards
The two are uniquely divided by the mighty Zambezi River, which is both a cultural and natural landmark of our district.
We are delighted to have you here and invite you to explore this platform for insights into our services, development initiatives, and opportunities that support the growth and well-being of our community.
